PROPOSAL FOR A DATA-DRIVEN ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE FRAMEWORK

Project Description: Every day, the amount of data that organizations have access to and are exposed to when doing business of any kind increases. Most companies find it difficult to manage this large amount of data and to capitalize on the returns from investments in Big Data Analytics (BDA). In most cases, this difficulty is characterized by the absence of a data-oriented culture, rather than a lack of technology. It is clear from the literature and from practice that cultural factors have proved to be a barrier to companies obtaining competitive advantages from the large volume of data that is currently collected, whether internal or external. Organizations invest in technologies to analyze the data and do not understand the transformational process that the company must go through in order to have a data-driven culture. For this reason, many organizations do not achieve the desired results and give up before they have access to the benefits of data-driven decision making. Therefore, the general problem faced is the lack of understanding about data-driven organizational culture, what makes it up, and the process to achieve it. Thus, this research project aims to answer the following research question: what are the critical factors for implementing a data-driven culture? The combination of the skills of the research team and the cases to be studied from the companies that are partners in this project mean that it will be possible to arrive at effective answers to the research question. In order to answer the defined question, a Systematic Bibliographic Review (SBR) and case studies will be used as a methodology to understand data-driven culture according to the literature and its application in Brazilian organizations. To this end, a framework will be built comprising the factors identified in the literature review and the case studies.
